Buying your ticket online

The best way to get a ticket at a decent price is to shop online. Keep in mind that some independent sites don’t show some airlines. For instance Orbitz neglects Jetblue in its searches and Southwest does not share its data. In this case go straight to the airline’s website.

Start shopping for the best available rate as soon as you know your departure date as fares tend to go up as the travel date nears. Keep in mind that charter rates tend to be lower right before take off.

In many cases buy direct at the airline’s website, this will save you on the transaction fees that travel websites charge (in between $ 4 to $ 12 dollars).

Winter holidays 2008

The long, cold winter days are coming. The economic crisis is spreading all over the globe and the mood for spending is just vanishing. Travel suppliers will have to adapt to the situation by being  more creative and flexible in their promotions  and discounts.  What will you do ? Stay put and watch CNN on and on about the financial turmoil ? We need to keep a balance of harmony and clarity otherwise we just go nuts. It is essential to get away, at least for a few days. Don’t forget to plan ahead of time if you want to find a good deal without breaking the bank.

Adventure in Paradise

woman_on_beach.jpg

What can be described as a dream vacation ? Could it be something like chilling with a margarita down by the pool at a Mexican resort ? Or going with the children to Disneyland ?

We all have different views and different interpretations of a dream vacation and the cliché being marketed by the travel industry is above all the secluded beach in a tropical island with a sexy woman getting a perfect tan… Just to make any woman living up North envious during the long winter months. Men will crave the moment to be with the model in the picture. Hey, it is totally normal isn’t it ? Envy, desire, escape…

Best & worst airlines

Travelling nowadays is not quite a friendly experience anymore. We are now facing increased security measures, overcrowded airports, long delays, and terrible customer service.

The least I expect as a traveler is to be attended by a friendly staff, but this has become a rarity in many airlines. Is it a cultural thing or more efficient  training the reason why Asian airlines tend to provide us with a better service ?

These are the top three airlines I’ve flown with :

  • Singapore Airlines
  • Thai Airways
  • Malaysian Airlines

Specially with Singapore Airlines the flight attendants are always friendly, efficient and courteous. They always maintain a perfect presentation. Singapore Airlines has understood that it is all a matter of attitude.

I want quality check-in, good staff attitudes, cleanliness and punctuality. Maybe I am too demanding in these troubled times.

The worst service I’ve gotten so far is from Mexicana Airlines, Aero California and American Airlines: total indifference, terrible attitude and a lack of problem solving skills among the staff. They have a long way to go compared to my top three Asian airlines !

A smile can change everything !
